Macklemore Pledges Tour Earnings to Palestinian Aid
Macklemore says he will donate $1 million from money earned during Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour to organizations providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.
The rapper announced the contribution on September 16, saying the funds would support six groups working on the ground and providing medical and humanitarian services. The organizations include the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, HEAL Palestine, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, UNRWA USA National Committee and Anera.
The Macklemore donation comes amid a growing dispute over his departure from Sheeran’s U.S. tour and his public comments about the situation in Gaza.
Macklemore Calls for a Matching Contribution
Macklemore also challenged New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to match his $1 million contribution.
Kraft is connected to Gillette Stadium, where Sheeran is scheduled to perform. The rapper’s challenge followed a disagreement over his removal from several remaining U.S. dates on Sheeran’s tour.
Macklemore had performed as an opening act at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earlier in September. During those performances, he made statements supporting Palestinians, which later became part of the controversy surrounding his departure.
Macklemore has claimed that Kraft was involved in the decision to remove him from the tour. Sheeran, however, said the decision was made by the tour promoter and not by him.
Kraft later addressed the situation and criticized what he characterized as Macklemore’s recent rhetoric and past imagery. The dispute has since expanded beyond the artists involved, bringing venue operators and humanitarian organizations into the discussion.
Sheeran and Kraft Discuss Humanitarian Aid
Following the Macklemore donation, Kraft said Sheeran had contacted him about humanitarian assistance.
According to Kraft, Sheeran asked him to commit $2 million toward aid efforts in the region. Kraft also said Sheeran intended to approach other venue owners about contributing.
The exact details surrounding those proposed funds remain less clear, including which organizations would receive the money and whether all of the reported contributions had been formally completed.
Some reports have described the discussions as involving $2 million contributions from both Sheeran and Kraft, while other accounts have focused on the fact that the specific recipients and payment status have not been fully established.
The Macklemore donation has also emerged as several performers associated with Sheeran’s U.S. tour have stepped away. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and members of Sheeran’s backing band Beoga have been reported among those leaving the tour following Macklemore’s removal.
For Macklemore, the contribution puts a significant focus on humanitarian organizations rather than the ongoing disagreement over the tour. The rapper has directed the money toward groups that provide food, medical assistance, emergency relief and other forms of support to Palestinians.
